DO YOU SHARE YOUR TOYS?

Encouraging Generosity in Your Children

As parents, we all want our children to have generous spirits. Sometimes
they do, and sometimes they need little a nudge. But forcing children to
share does not foster generosity; it only enforces obedience.

Many parents begin teaching generosity by encouraging their children to share
their toys. But unless children experience their parents sharing toys with them
or other children, they have no point of reference. So, what’s the solution?
Buying toys, of course!

“There are a number of different ways parents can teach their children how to
share,” states Karen Gardner, founder of ParentWell. “But insisting they share is
not one of them. As with most things, children learn generosity by watching
their parents. Unfortunately, parents don’t often have toys they can share.”

Modeling toy sharing is just one of the alternatives parents will learn in an upcoming
class offered by ParentWell. The class, Do You Share Your Toys?, will be held at
Battery Park Christian Church 4201 Brook Road on April 2, 2008 from 7-8:00 P.M.
The class also explores the hidden reasons why young children refuse to share and
how parents can reshape this thinking to encourage generosity.

Advance registration and payment is required for Do You Share Your Toys?. This cost
of this class is $20 and free childcare will be provided. For more information or to
register, contact Karen at ParentWell@Gmail.com.
