MINUTES
BELLEVUE
CIVIC ASSOCIATION MEETING
January 16, 2007, 7:00 p.m.
Westminster-Canterbury
Center for Creative Living
After pizza and sodas, the
meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by president Roy Reynolds.
The other officers introduced themselves: JoEllen Davis,
Vice-President; Joy Payne, Secretary; and Janet Brown, Treasurer.
Roy mentioned that the
Security Patrol needs volunteers, and made forms available for
members to fill out and submit.
The Newsletter is in need of
a new Advertising Manager and a new Editor. Roy mentioned that
advertising supports the newsletter, and that calls were coming in
from businesses wanting to advertise.
John Anderson mentioned that
there were now 220 members of the Yahoo newsgroup.
Civic Association dues are
due. $15.00 payable to the BCA. Someone asked if envelopes for BCA
dues were included in the current issue of the newsletter, scheduled
to be delivered tomorrow. They are not.
Margaret Webb was then
introduced as the Director of Public Relations for
Westminster-Canterbury. Margaret ran a slide show chronicling the
construction from 2003 to completion in 2006. She invited members
of the BCA to take a tour of the facilities at the completion of the
meeting.
A resident of Westbrook
Avenue, Tom Miller, spoke up about his continuing concerns of
traffic congestion and noise emanating from Westminster-Canterbury.
Forty residents of Westbrook Avenue signed a letter voicing these
and other concerns. Roy asked that Tom get a copy of this letter to
him, and the issue will be discussed at the next Board meeting.
Irene Jennings asked where
the minutes of BCA meetings were published. Informed that they were
on the Website, Irene stated her opinion that they needed to be
included in the newsletter, which is delivered to every door in
Bellevue.
A concern was voiced about
police cars clustered on Brook Road recently, in the very
early-morning hours. There was a discussion about the issue of
crime on Chamberlayne Avenue, and moving closer to Brook Road.
Irene mentioned that crime in these areas was to be the topic at a
CAPS meeting to be held this Thursday, January 18th, at Holton
School.
A resident of Bellevue
Avenue described his problem with standing water in his backyard,
which is affecting the foundation of his house. Hydrostatic
pressure was agreed to be the cause, but the reason why this has
only become an issue in the last 2 1/2 years is not answered. Roy
and others suggested: Call the City.... and keep calling...
including Gary DuVal, Deputy Director for Public Works. Steven
pointed out that the 14 inches of rain (from Gaston?) did a number
on storm and sewer drains throughout the City.
The meeting concluded with a
number of BCA members taking a tour of the public areas of the new
parts of Westminster-Canterbury.
Respectfully submitted,
Joy Payne
