| Guest Speaker |
Margaret Webb,
Director of Public Relations for Westminster
Canterbury, spoke to us at length. Although it would be WC’s
desire to acquire Azalea Mall, it is not feasible at this time due
to the owner’s exceedingly high asking price for the mall property.
She fielded complaints from residents who live nearby and have
had to put up with very early morning noise from the construction
trucks, and the late night noise from employees leaving work
with their car audios cranked up. This can be a considerable concern,
since there are 850 staff and 900 residents. She indicated that this
issue would be re-emphasized in new-hire training. The employees
are told in orientation that they will get tickets for speeding in the
area. She stated also that a cut-in is planned for the Main Entrance
for a bus stop.
It was made known that, for a small fee, there are
some free swim times available in the WC Pool/ Jacuzzi.
Interest was expressed in knowing the status of new cultural
and creative arts center. Ms. Webb stated that there were
two scheduled private donor events. The center’s main purpose
is the education and cultural edification of the residents and
their guests. It is also for the performing arts. She indicated
that when they are certain that the residents are well
accommodated, they will be in a position to welcome
the public if there is additional room.
Re: Pets – The Homes on the Green allow pets, with no
