General Meeting    
October 18, 2005
Pizza Social-		Pizza and drinks served.
Call to Order-		Meeting convened at 7:00 PM at Holton Elementary School.
Upcoming Events:	October 29, 2005 8 AM Bellevue cleanup. 
				Start at Bellevue and Brook Rd. 
				6 trucks are reserved.
			November 6, 2005 Lorraine Avenue Block Party
			November 8, 2005 VOTING DAY
			November 12, 2005 Marathon – “Arch Party”
				9-1 PM. Meet at the arch.
				
Guest Speakers		First guest speaker was C. T. Woody, candidate for Sheriff.
			Served as lead investigator in the Commonwealth 
			Attorney’s office. Has 35 years service with the Police 
			Department. Calls to opposing candidate, Michelle Mitchell, not
			returned.
			Jennifer McLellan, running unopposed for the House of
			Delegates, spoke.
				
			The head of sector 412, Lt. Tim Morley spoke at length
			on various issues of concern to the neighborhood. He had
			several tips and distributed a brochure on Automobile 
			Theft. Property crimes are the biggest problem in our area.
			He enjoined all of us to become “Gladys Kravitz” from the
			Bewitched TV show. She was the neighbor who was 
			forever looking out her window and saw everything that 
			went on.
			He is interested in hearing any ideas we have about crime 
			prevention and deterrence.
			Lt. Morley stated that it is imperative to lock our
			cars. In the winter DO NOT leave it running, even for 
			a moment to run into the store. It is not uncommon for a 
			would-be thief to pretend to be talking on the payphone, 
			watching you run into the store, and seizing the 
			opportunity to steal your warmed up car.
			He reminded us there is a curfew of 11 PM for anyone 
			under 17 years old.

Business – 		Increase in Annual Dues – 
			After discussion, vote taken to increase annual 
			civic dues to $15. Passed 23 to 5.

			North Team Meetings – Held on the 3rd Thursday at the 
			Police Academy. Attended by Larry Jones, Bellevue Civic 
			Assocation President. 

			Election of Officers – Larry Jones, President; 
			Roy Reynolds, Vice President; Joellen Davis, Secretary. 
			Confirmed by unanimous vote.

			New shops – Mercury String Shop on Bellevue, music instrument repair
			Carytown Books, on MacArthur, bookseller

			Dues – Will be billed in January, including a return envelope. 
			There will be a lockbox at Stir Crazy for dropoff.

			Status of CVS – Larry Jones was told by a City Official that 
			it would be back in operation in December. 

			Yard Sale – Chris Miller and Michele Banalett reported that the 
			benefit yardsale held on the Fauquier median for the purpose of 
			helping the animals affected by Hurricane Katrina, in cooperation 
			with the Louisiana SPCA, raised $3600. They thanked the neighborhood 
			for participation and support.

			Need stated – For Neighborhood Watch Chairman, and the establishment 
			of viable phone trees. 

			Item for further discussion……feasibility of combining the efforts and 
			management of the Security Patrol and Neighborhood Watch.
