Bellevue Civic Association Board of Directors Meeting
February 2, 2008
Stir Crazy, MacArthur Avenue
The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m.
Andrew Wisniewski, owner of Taste Buds expressed his interest of
moving into the Sammy’s Bakery space. The move would give him
a better restaurant setting and better square footage for occupancy
for successful restaurant. He would continue to serve only beer and
wine; the restaurant would close at 10 pm weeknights and 11 pm on
Saturday. He expects to continue his take out business. Parking is the
issue. According to the zoning board, he needs to supply 22 spaces. An
exemption or a waiver is possible. He requested a letter of support be
sent to the local zoning board. Andrew will send the contact information
to Roy for letter of support. Roy will include comments regarding a large
walk-in clientele. There were no objections to writing the letter.
Joe Robertson, current chair of the neighborhood cleanup, will hand over
last 20 years worth of paperwork to Eric Gregory. Eric has helped with last
couple of cleanups. Joe Stankus offered the help of his Kiwanis group, then
would host a cookout for volunteers. Clean-ups happen in April and October.
Eric will Co-Chair committee with Joe this spring, then take over in the fall.
Roy reported on route changes in the marathon, and noted that BCA was the
only civic association that sponsors a water stop. This fall, the City is adding
a half marathon, which will go first. There is need for more water volunteers
and more help at the stop at mile 21(the big arch). It would be good to have
a neighborhood band at this location. Eric lives at Stanhope & Fauquier and has
also had a water stop & band. We need a BCA banner at arch. Roy has a contact
for banner.
Doug Brabrand of Mount Vernon St, lives behind Irene and learned about the
neighborhood watch. He wanted to know more about what the responsibilities
would be as committee chairman. He has been doing security patrol. Discussion
followed with what would be involved, such as recruiting and organizing captains
for all blocks and newsletter updates. He will speak with Irene again before agreeing.
He was interested in learning what the neighborhood wants to know in regard to
crime. He will look into how to communicate with the police and other sources. There
are some block captains already.
A traffic study is being done. Chris Hilbert has been asked by Roy to contact BCA first,
before any changes are put in place.
There was much discussion about possible changes to General meeting dates and
newsletter dates. General meeting dates have been in January, April, July and October.
It was proposed to move them one month later to February, May, August and November.
The Newsletter will be published one month before.
Eric will look into scheduling the Clean Up for April 5 and October 4. He will check with
the city, and the truck availabilities may have some effect on the Clean Up schedule.
At the moment, we will shoot for a mid-March delivery of the next Newsletter to be
able to announce the Clean Up with ample notice for the residents.
The next General meeting will be May 20, 2008. This year, the meetings are the third
Tuesday in January, May, August and November.
Susan was advised that advertisers could be contacted now.
It was noted that a Newsletter Committee meeting followed the Board meeting,
so there was no further discussion.
It was suggested to express some appreciation to Joe for his many years of work on
Clean Up. Roy will find an appropriate certificate, and will get a gift certificate to
a neighborhood restaurant. Gift certificates will be requested from other neighborhood
locations in the future.

Joellen will contact Joy Gadway Payne regarding gathering information for an
“In Memoriam” page for Reggie Bracey in the next newsletter. We can also mention
the security patrol person who passed away. In the future, we can have other
neighborhood announcements such as births.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 a.m.
In Attendance:
Roy Reynolds, Pres
Joellen Davis, VP
Pat Vitsky, Sec
Doug Brabrand
