RE: Insurance Liability Policy of Bellevue Civic Association:
Its Use for Block Parties

President received request from Lorraine Avenue residents
to use the Bellevue Civic Association’s Liability Policy for a
planned block party for Lorraine Avenue. As they have done
in the past, they plan to block off the street, and this requires
that they obtain liability insurance. What has been permitted in
the past is the purchase of a rider on the Bellevue Civic Assn
policy at a very nominal cost.

The concern on the part of the Board is that this provision opens
us up to a tremendous level of risk. There is no sponsorship of any
kind by the Bellevue Civic Assn for such individual block parties,
and it was stated that this is an inappropriate use of the policy.
There are 108 dues-paying households (out of more than 1200
households in the neighborhood), whose money is used to pay the
premium for this insurance policy.

Voted unanimously to deny request for such use of Liability Insurance
Policy for this and future block parties until and unless otherwise notified.
