Bellevue Civic Association
Board Meeting Minutes
December 3, 2005

Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM by moderator
Larry Jones at Stir Crazy.
Business First guest was Hilda Braswell, seeking the support of the Bellevue Civic Association for a zoning variance she requested for 4008 Brook Rd. home. She seeks to enclose two porches and change the stairs and railings to better accommodate space and access for her daughter who has a movement disability. The building itself is out of compliance with current zoning laws, so no changes are allowed. Their building permit was approved under a grandfather agreement, but the zoning inspector informed them that a living area cannot be expanded in a non-compliant dwelling. Thus Mrs. Braswell is seeking a zoning variance. Motion made and passed unanimously for BCA board support.

Newsletter

Annette Nelms and Susannah Raffenot. They have come forward to volunteer to help with the newsletter. Annette’s business is called “Get Organized.” We, along with editor Mark McIntyre, welcome the assistance!! *****Newsletter deadline is December 20th, for a 01/03/2006 deadline to printer.********** Articles may be submitted to newsletter@bellevueweb.org

Neighborhood Shops

Betty Lewis Smith told the group that she is interested in opening a shop in the neighborhood that would include interior decorating, gardening items, and feature the work of local artists and craftspeople. It was stated that a bakery is opening next to Shenanigans, and that an antique store is opening across the street. It is now stated that it will be the end of the year when the CVS is open again.

The Arch

Discussion of having a banner made for the Bellevue Arch, that would be displayed during such events as the marathon. Good for neighborhood publicity. It is not desired to have it hanging on the arch at all times.

The civic association dues

When the January newsletter is ready, we will have the printer include stuffing an envelope into the gutter that would be pre-addressed for the return of the annual dues. If there is not too much of a delay for them to do it, we will have it done for $105.00. It is possible we will stuff them ourselves, if need be.

Acknowledging the receipt
of dues

Discussion of sending a note of welcome and thanks for the dues when they are received. Perhaps a neighborhood store coupon will be included, perhaps a postcard with a coupon will be used. It is definite that we want to acknowledge that we have received the dues, and thank the residents. Larry Jones the president has been sending notes when notified of paid dues, which has been well-received. He will continue to be involved in the process, perhaps for the signature and text composition, but it was felt that he should be relieved of the administrative task.
